PayPal finally entered in UK, the first mobile payment franchise of PayPal in Europe, having new way for card reading

PayPal has made announcement that this summer they have decided to roll out their operations in UK. So get ready to welcome one more new player in the mobile transfer payment supplier in Europe. This will be the first foray of PayPal in European market equipping with new piece of hardware for accommodating the chip based cards.

PayPal has not yet announced the launching date and prices of the offered services, yet they have assured for competitive pricing. The current fees is 2.75% per transaction and for the services of chip readers, it is €49 or $65.

PayPal described their aim to enter in to the European market as, UK is the second largest market after US accounting of 18 million customers. The second reason is the highest penetration of the smartphone in European market. Almost 61% smartphone market is capture by Europe, according to the report shared by Kantar Worldpanel Comtech.

First stab is taken in UK for establishing PayPal. This will be used as a lever for further expansion in European market, shared by MD of PayPal, Mr. Cameron McLean.

The president of PayPal, David Marcus has availed a chance to bring PayPal mobile payment service in his own home market.

Marcus said that, “PayPal is the biggest hit since its launch and I am quite thrilled in bringing the brand new version specially designed for European market and beyond.” PayPal will surely do not share their profit figures earned from US, however this is the whole new service for UK customers and it is aim to reach that touchpoint. PayPal further disclosed that they have managed to earn $145 billion in payments done through web and mobile in 2012.

To accommodate the chip based cards employed in Europe and to meet the needs of companies like Visa, PayPal will come up with a separate chip and pin device. This new device will let the users to enter the card and insert a pin number for identifying customers.

It is also found that one of the mobile payment companies, iZettle has introduced their chip and pin reader to get little more over PayPal.

PayPal has already joined numbers of European companies like American Express backed by iZettle, SumUp, mPowa, Intuit (rival of PayPal in US) and Samwer/Rocket intervet’s Payleven. This is done to tackle large base of small sized and medium sizes businesses in UK which accept card payments as bank fees on cards are too much high in past.
