Oh what a great success, Apple crowned a million of sales on its iPhone 4 first launch in just three days, while many more people wait to get their hands on one. Just where the quantity of sold iPhone 4 units stamps Apple’s success, the quality of the delivered device doesn’t stand up to the mark. With delays in the delivery and antenna malfunctioning of iPhone 4, I would call it more of a broken success. Apple being a brand makes it an obligation for all its blind-folded users to buy the new iPhone, so they obtain it somehow. In a situation like this, can Quantity alone be the measure of success?
Apple’s upcoming devices have always been controversial. Take iPad or previous iPhones for instance. All were criticized enormously but the negative marketing played a big part in making high sales happen. It’s a simple concept, just criticize something again and again, and make the audience curious enough to buy the product for seeing the odds, and eventually everyone forgets the criticism and start loving what they have. Apple has probably followed the formula.
iPhone 4 sold in huge numbers but this doesn’t defend its odds. iPhone has been a problem-child since long. Talk about its network carrier “AT&T”. In 2007, when iPhone “2G” was first launched, carrier-based problems were observed. Since then, there is a list of issues from lower signal reception, to server down for uploading apps from App store, and to or else 3G data issues. After two years, iPhone 4, owning a millions user base, still shows same problems. Continued lowered signal reception and network carrier issues. Some of them have been solved though. But is this the measure of success for Apple? From the first day to the fourth generation launch, they stand on the same place! “What is it for Apple? Quantity or the Quality?”
iPhone 4 gives you an improved display screen, multi-tasking, and a couple of more enhanced features but a lot of issues remain unsolved. This time, with the new iPhone we get a front facing camera that will enable video conferencing. Skype and Fring have already upgraded their applications for video calling on iPhone 4, but just then I remember the pictures I took from my iPhone. They were disastrous! I cannot simply forget grainy and fizzy effects in the images. Let’s confess, iPhone’s camera doesn’t work for anyone.
So, Apple is this how you measure your success? Apple’s breaking sales records every year with its strong marketing skills and brand image but has not been able to make a single so called “Perfect” device in all these years. I believe it’s high time for Apple prioritize its successive measures. Being huge is not a big deal but bearing a good quality is what matters the most.
