Earlier this month Apple was granted a patent called “Image selection for an incoming call”

Few days ago Apple was granted a new right called “image selection for an incoming call”. According to this right the Apple’s system will be able to choose an image of inbound caller ID to display on the screen. The source of these images is cloud-based gallery or the image library which has been stored locally. The system also analyses contact info like iMessage email addresses and phone numbers to see whose calling. After this it displays an image on random basis or on the basis of weighted scores that has been assigned to the rate of use of any ones image, their star ratings and information regarding location. This seems to be a very small change but it is a good change. This type of system will show you pictures of your friends and family members that are far away from you if this system can detect the location. The system also shows your snapshot if the system detects that you are travelling somewhere while receiving phone from home. It can also display picture of the person calling you at the same time of day that the call was made. So in this way you can analyse that at what time of the day the caller on other part of world was calling regardless of the local time.
The system can also display highly rated pictures by you based on the star rating system like iPhoto and Aperture. Sometimes it displays small video clips rather than static images. This can be applied to the incoming phone calls, iMessages, SMS and Facetime.
Apple filed the patent in the year 2012, so in this way Apple got some time start working on this project. Until now we have not heard about its launch on iOS. Patents are not a good indicator of shipping product plans but this is unique so we might see some Apple devices coming with this feature.
