Everyone in the blogsphere is talking of iPhone to leave AT&T exclusivity, soon. This, to me, is a much needed step that Apple should be taking for expanding its sales and shading off the burden of the trillions bits of data, which AT&T currently bears. It is equally good for the iPhone enchanted consumer base that has complaints against network efficiency, resulting from the bandwidth load.
Stories are that Apple may announce in its coming event tomorrow, that T-Mobile will be the next iPhone carrier. Not just T-Mobile but other US carriers including Verizone, Sprint and Clearwire will also be joining the league soon; as stated by Tim Horan, the telecom analyst at Oppenheimer & Co. News is not confirmed though but the doubts are less in its falsifying as we have seen 4 different wireless carriers selling iPhone in the UK as well; so now may be is the time for US.
Breaking AT&T exclusivity is important in terms of boosting iPhone sales. As learnt from the UK experience, where Vodafone was an additional carrier in the European market, and was able to sell 100,000 iPhone sets in just seven days. 50,000 devices were sold only within the first 24 hours. If these can be the figures with Vodafone then Apple will definitely be looking at higher sales graph with additional US carriers.
Time’s not too far, the real news might be out by tomorrow. Until then we can wait for Apple to decide AT&T’s fortune.
